Zene FAQ: 30 Questions Answered (2027)

New to Zene, comparing Free and Premium, moving playlists or trying to fix playback? Here are 30 of the questions that matter most.

⚡ TL;DR
Zene is free, with ads, and brings music, podcasts, live radio, video and entertainment into one account.
Premium removes Zene ads and increases several personalisation and Library limits, while the core listening features remain available on Free.

🟢 Getting started

1. What is Zene?
Zene brings music, podcasts, live radio, video and entertainment discovery into one app. Entertainment includes areas such as news, trending content, trailers, charts, box office information and concert discovery.
2. Is Zene free?
Yes. Zene Free doesn't require a credit card and doesn't expire after a trial period. The Free plan includes the core app experience with Zene ads.
3. What devices does Zene work on?
Zene is available on supported Android devices, iPhone, iPad, Fire tablets, Fire TV and through compatible modern web browsers.
4. Do I need to install anything on a computer?
No. You can use Zene on the web directly in a compatible browser without installing a separate desktop app.
5. How do I sign in?
Zene supports its available sign-in methods such as Google, Apple and email-based sign-in. Use the same Zene account you originally used so that your existing Library and history appear correctly.
6. What are the main sections?
The main areas include Home, Music, Search, Entertainment and Library.

💷 Plans and payment

7. What does Premium change?
Premium changes five main things: it removes Zene ads, extends the recommendation-history window from 3 months to 12 months, shows Artist Stories from all 20 followed artists instead of the first 2, removes the 250-song playlist-import limit, and increases queue capacity to as many as 1,000 items.
8. What does Premium cost?
Pricing is shown inside the app and can vary by country, store and plan. Zene offers monthly, 6-month and yearly options where available.
9. Can I buy Premium on the website?
Not currently. Zene Premium subscriptions are purchased through Google Play or the App Store.
10. Is there a free trial?
Eligible new subscribers may see a free-trial offer. Availability and duration can vary by store, region and subscription offer, so check the purchase screen before confirming.
11. Where do I cancel?
Cancel through the subscription-management section of the store that billed you — Google Play for Google Play purchases or Apple's subscription settings for App Store purchases.
12. Does deleting my Zene account cancel Premium?
No. Account deletion and subscription cancellation are separate actions. If you're being billed through an app store, cancel the subscription through that store.
13. What happens to my Library if I cancel?
Cancelling Premium doesn't delete your Zene account, playlists or saved media. After the paid subscription period ends, the account returns to the Free plan and the Free-plan limits and ad experience apply again.
14. I changed phones — how do I get Premium back?
First sign into the same Zene account. If you're still using the same store ecosystem, use Restore Purchases where applicable. Store restoration doesn't normally cross between Google Play and Apple's App Store. If Premium doesn't attach correctly after changing platforms, contact support before buying another subscription.

👨‍👩‍👧 Family

15. How does Zene Family work?
Zene Family supports one main member plus up to five guests. Each person keeps their own account, playlists, saved media, listening history and recommendations.
16. How do guests join?
The main member creates a 12-character invitation code. The code is valid for 24 hours and rotates after it is used. The guest redeems it through their own Zene account.
17. Why does my Family code say invalid or expired?
Start by generating a fresh code if the current one is more than 24 hours old. Also check that the Family subscription is active and that the group hasn't already reached its guest limit. If the invitation still fails, contact Zene Support at knocknock@zenemusic.co.
18. What happens if someone leaves the Family?
Their Family Premium access ends and their Zene account returns to the Free experience, but the account, playlists, saved media and Library remain intact. Any separate store subscription the person has is governed by that subscription's own billing status.
19. Who can remove Family members?
The main Family member manages membership and can remove guests.

🎵 Playlists and import

20. How do I bring playlists from another service?
Export a playlist as a CSV using the supported export workflow, then choose that CSV in the Zene mobile app. Zene reads the file, searches its own catalogue and lets you review the proposed matches before saving.
21. Which services can I import from?
The import workflow can be used with playlist exports from services such as Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Deezer and TIDAL.
22. How many songs can I import?
Zene Free supports up to 250 imported songs every rolling 30 days. Premium removes that limit. If an import exceeds the current Free allowance, Zene can save the tracks that fit and show what remains.
23. Can I import playlists on the web?
The web experience can guide you through the process, but selecting the exported playlist file and completing the CSV import happens in the Zene mobile app.
24. Why did some songs import as different versions?
Music catalogues don't always contain exactly the same release. When an exact version isn't available, Zene may identify a nearby catalogue match such as a remaster, single edit or another release and show it under Closest matches for review.
25. What's the difference between Mine and Saved playlists?
Mine contains playlists you created and control. Saved contains playlists created elsewhere that you've added to your Library, so their contents may be controlled by the original source rather than by you.

▶️ Playback

26. Are lyrics and the sleep timer free?
Yes. Lyrics, sleep timer, queue and reordering, shuffle, repeat, playback speed and background playback are available on the Free plan.
27. Why does music stop when I lock my screen?
On Android, aggressive battery or background restrictions are one possible cause, so check Zene's battery settings and any manufacturer-specific protected-app or auto-start controls. On iPhone and iPad, active audio uses iOS's background-audio system; Background App Refresh is not normally what keeps currently playing music alive. If the problem persists, update Zene and the OS, test without Bluetooth and check whether another app or system event is interrupting playback.
28. Does Zene remember where I stopped a podcast?
Yes. Podcast progress is saved per episode, so you can stop partway through and continue later rather than starting again.

🔧 Settings and support

29. How do I use less mobile data?
Lower your audio quality for mobile data in Settings → Data saver / audio quality. Audio quality is one of the biggest controls over streaming data use. Video can consume considerably more data than audio, and a sleep timer can prevent unnecessary playback after you've fallen asleep.
30. How do I contact Zene Support?
For account, playback and product help, email knocknock@zenemusic.co. Include your device model, operating-system version, Zene app version, what you were trying to do and exactly what happened.
⚠️ Never send your password, sign-in link or payment-card details.
Legitimate troubleshooting shouldn't require you to hand over account credentials or sensitive payment information.
